Sometimes I wonder how anyone 20-30 years ago could tow anything. My first truck was a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. It had 245HP from a 5.9L V8. I can't remember the torque but it pulled my 6000lb boat just fine. Now these baby diesels have about the same HP (230-245HP) with more torque and they are junk and can't pull anything! :). My neighbor used to have an early 80's Dodge pickup with a slant 6 2bbl carb. Used to pull about a 25' TT. Probably didn't win any races but he never had any issues. Even towed in the Smokeys for a long summer vacation with the trailer.
