Anyone had their electric jack(s) fail?

Got home from a long car trip and went to check on the truck camper which we leave mounted on our truck. Anyway, one of the electric jacks was fully extended, actually overextended, and now won't retract manually or electrically. We have no idea how this occurred. Has this happened to anyone and do you have any advice on how to fix it? Can u imagine if this had happened going down the road?!
  • I really appreciate your prompt replies! I'll pass along your thoughts to my husband and get back with you soon. My husband is now trouble shooting our house furnace which isn't working correctly and it's 22 degrees outside!! Going to Florida for a month has it's consequences!!

  • Yep, we did. They weren't even a year old. We've had problems from the start. We sent them all in to HJ and they refurbished them. Then, 1 stopped working completely. We sent the motor head back to them and they sent us a rebuilt motor. It works perfectly and is quieter. Can't say that for the other 3. We're waiting for them to fail too.

    Customer service was great though.
  • Yes, only offering a start. Our electric jacks have external manual switches-as unlikely as I think it is, water 'could' short one.
Bobndots suggestion is the only response I recall of jack falling.
That and more specific info might help finding a more specific answer.

But you did say jack was 'overextended'. How did it do that without lifting truck? Jacks don't reach the ground when camper on truck?
  • IM not that versed on jacks but there are different brands of elec. tc jacks . What jack do u have ?
I think one of them has a lever that allows the leg to drop down , free fall .

Maybe we can do a search on your brand and find a solution .
  • The jacks were up and the camper sitting on the truck. We have no idea what happened. Doubt it was a curious kid.......no one lives near us. Water intrusion? How would that make the jack extend? We're stumped and concerned......never even considered this was a possibility!
  • no but Ive had external switch stick. Water intrustion? Or curious kid? Is trucks weight on it?
I added cut off switches inside-so only power jacks when using.
