Anyone have a camper on a Ford Ecoboost

I understand all the arguments against putting a camper on a half-ton, and indeed find them cogent. In my case, a camper will be a short-term RV solution on my way probably to a FW. The Ecoboost can tow 11,000 pounds, which covers the small FW I would likely consider. Plus I assume the turbos would be a big advantage on hills. And likely I would be driving it empty more than loaded, so the decent mpg would be nice. So I am just wondering if someone found a camper set up with the Ecoboost that works.
  • I don't have one, but I've been impressed by the specification of that truck.

I believe the Ecoboost HD has a pretty good payload - much better than a typical 1/2 ton of the past giving you some reasonable options for hauling a light truck camper. It has generally been the poor payloads that have discouraged people from using half tons for truck campers.

I understand it also gives very good gas mileage. Having now owned a number of small turbo gasoline engines I've been very impressed with their low down torque versus good mileage; in contrast I was very unimpressed with the lack of grunt of the 5.4 v8 in the E-series I rented in June - I reckoned it would have been much better with a 3 litre turbo.

    Steve.
