Anyone have a Lance 1131?

I'd love to see pics & hear your opinion of it.
How well does the folding back canvas pop out hold up over time how might it effect the inside temps on very hot or cold days?

If I don't go 5th wheel, I'm seriously considering one.
I wish I knew where one was to see in person.

  • I own a 2007 1131 with the tent. It is a fantastic camper and has served our family well. We camp regularly with 5 people and 2 dogs. We have 3 kids and we outgrew our old truck camper, moved to a 5th wheel for one season and sold it and moved into the 1131. There is no way a family of 5 (w/ teens) could make use of a regular TC.

The drop down tent in the back is BIG. Two full grown men could sleep comfortably on it. The tent portion is cooler then the rest of the camper in the winter and warmer in the summer, but the furnace works just fine. I made an insulated liner out of reflectix for winter time - it helps alot. Learned this from the popup forum.

We have had 7 people in this camper (and the dogs) and all had fun. It will be our family camper until the kids are grown. The fit and finish and quality of the build on the Lance has been really good.

We have had no problem with the tent. I agree with the other poster that the tent has only been a positive. If it rains or snows on the canvas, I open it to let it dry once back home.

Let me know if you have more questions.

From what I remember Lance did not carry the fabric anymore but someone had found where you could get something like it, you had to cut it out and use the old one as a template, didn't sound fun to me.

Host also has the tent option, but it is rare to find.

I never did see one in person but from the pics I saw I wouldn't put anything bigger than a dog or a couple lightweight kids on it.

If I get one the tent pop out will be for my 100lb dog.
  • @JTLance Sweet upgrades on your 1191! I need to swap out that dang faucet in the bathroom to something taller like yours.
  • My 2009 1191 has to be similar. I have had nothing but great experiences with it too. The tent has been wonderful for my daughter and find it the "missing" piece to a full size truck camper...SPACE! It gives the wife and I, (daughter too) an area that is hers and a place to relax in without being underfoot.

I waterproofed it when we bought it and its been wonderful! I cannot say whether or not it was needed, just did it for piece of mind.

The heater has a duct that come out specifically for that room too. Rain has been no issue, mildew either. I just make sure I open her up when we get back for some sunshine for a few hours. Yes, in bear country, regardless of rules, I wouldn't want my kid to be a Scoobie-snack! So we just use this camper as it was originally intended...One queen atop, and one pull down 6' above dinette, one that's made from the dinette. So, sleeping 4 is easy!

I again will affirm, the tent has been a positive, not a negative.

  • Per my experience Lace supports its product for about 15 years.
I tried to get few parts for my 2002 model and they did not help me at all, although local RV dealer found me skylight cover just fine.
Later, having model # I found the cover much cheaper at Walmart, but when manufacturer can't help you with part number, you will have hard time.

I had looked at an 1191 with the tent option and decided against it, from what I had read if the PO did not take care of it and allowed it to mildew (put it up while wet) sourcing the tent materials was a pain. I camp in colder temps and was also worried about the seal, to me it was like a convertible, sure it's cool to have but at some point it is going to leak.

I also like camping in the snow more than the heat & part of why I ask.

There not many campers with this option & maybe there is a reason?

& if it needs to be repaired I doubt Lance still has the replacement canvas or anything to fix it?
