Anyone just keep the first trailer?

I had intentions of keeping every trailer I've bought (3 since 2007). But, things change. First, grandkids move in, then grandkids move back to their parents, then they move back in with us. I'm dreaming of another bunkhouse.

I bought mine used on short notice because I have to live out of it during the week on an out of town job. But I lucked into a really nice 18 footer that was essentially new and only a few years old. I figured I'd buy it (the price was great) and upgrade in a few years to a larger 22-26 footer. Now that I have been living out of it for 6 months it's totally paid off from the money my company gave me for weekly hotel stays (and that's including fully paying for the $750/month full hookup here in the RV park). Now I'm realizing that this little trailer is just fine, and I have no intention of spending more money on a larger rig. My only real complaint is the small bed, but spending may thousands of dollars for a bigger bed just does not make any sense.

If you don't plan on hitting the road for months at a time or don't need more room then keep it. If you like newer things then sell and get something newer.

Our first RV was a used fifth wheel bought in 2008. Had everything we wanted and then some. Vowed it would be our first and only RV. 2 years ago at a Good Sam rally in Daytona we traded it for a new Jayco TT. I dunno, stuff happens..........

We kept our first trailer, which was 8 yrs old when we bought it, for 6 years. We finally just outgrew it. We bought a brand new 2014 trailer back in June. We love it and it is exactly (as close as possible) what we wanted and it has worked out great for us. I think we slept in it 28 nights this year and we had no home sickness or complaints from the kids or my wife. Great times. Any complaints that we did have, were teething issues on a new trailer. Leaking plumbing, bathroom drain that fell apart, 2 bad tires (including the unused spare), set of drawers that became unusable when the rear support fell off the upper mount, drawer under the couch had the bottom blow out, etc. We had more issues this year than any previous year with an older trailer. Some of it came from it being new and having teething issues, some of it was from our adventure out east. I don't think it would be possible to give a trailer a tougher "shake" down run. Lots of rough roads and lots of miles. Nothing that stopped the trip or the fun however. I think I've got them mostly fixed, the rest will be fixed in the spring (better than new) so problems should not come back.

We truly had outgrown out previous trailer, otherwise we'd have had some buyers remorse. Thankfully the larger trailer outweighed the negatives and we're looking forward to an even better year next year. To sum up, change if you have the need and the needs out weight the unknown of a new trailer, don't if you are happy with what you have. Don't buy new based only on an itch for something new.

I will probably always buy used. Having said that, I'm glad there are those of you who can/are willing to buy new for your first purchase or to upgrade, so that there are always used units on the market for those of us who can't/will not buy new.

Keeping the used market supplied is a good thing.

I've had mine for 9+ years now and it still serves me well

We kept out third trailer because it still suits our needs.
I certainly don't hold it against folks who upgrade for the same reason.

Well I would love to say. "Just keep it, and fix it" often that is the best bet. However if everyone just kept theirs. I would be out of work. So would the 100s of thousands that build/sell RVs. So I guess I must say. BUY NEW, definitely BUY NEW. But if you must keep yours, send it to me for all repairs, (since I really dont want to be unemployed) "please"

We loved everything about our HTT - our first trailer and we declared many a time that this was a lifetime commitment. It was in perfect condition, brand new tires, DH made a custom entertainment center that was awesome. No need to make any changes. But....there is sometimes a "but"...we didn't count on US getting older and DH having a less than perfect hip replacement, another health issue that was causing much damage to ligaments, tendons, joints. I'm not the strongest woman on the planet and some things I just cannot do and HTTs do take a bit more work setting up and breaking down. After a weekend trip with much fussing and groaning from both of us, I started looking online - again - and found THE perfect TT for us. I had been known to peek at TTs before, but I felt like this was time to either make a change or get out of camping altogether. When DH got home I told him what I'd found....more groaning on his part and he said "well, show it to me" with that sound in his voice that said he'd look but only to appease me. He fell in love with it, as I had, and asked me to get the ball rolling and make sure we didn't miss out on it. Perfect floorplan, perfect interior colors, right size and weight. Barring anything unforseen, we really do feel that this is the 2nd and LAST trailer for us. We're past the adding toys stage. We don't need or want more space. We don't need or want any payment. Why change when this suits us perfectly??
