Anyone just keep the first trailer?

We have an 2006 27Q Cherokee we bought new in 2007. It was an upgrade from a 1976 Apache pop-up (I wish I still had).

Our trailer is paid for with very little personal property tax and insurance…and we like it. I’ve fixed lots of stuff and I know what we have.

We are looking at trailers with recliners and picture window in the rear and are having a hard time determining if it is it worth the change.

Just wandering if anyone just says….we love our first trailer and will keep it until the wheels fall off!

  • Wish I still had that little 1970 Aristocrat Lo-Liner. That was a sweet little trailer. To find one today costs more than double what we paid for ours, and then they take a complete rebuild.
  • My motto is "if what I have works perfectly fine, then don't throw away money replacing it".

This holds true with everything including vehicles and RVs.

If what you have isn't working for you, then replace it. But if it's just about "the grass is greener", then go sit in your RV, look around, and point out 10 things that you love about it. Buy a couple new pillows or some new towels, etc.
  • I agree with Dennis. If your current trailer suits your present needs and is in good shape, why make a change for the sake of change?
Now if every trip out, you two are sitting there saying, "I wish we had that instead of this", or " I really don't like.....", or "I'm so tired of putting up with.....", then perhaps it is time to seek a replacement.

DH and I have repeatedly delaying replacing vehicles until there was a legitimate reason to; starting needing more frequent repairs or time for a major component to fail. In doing so, we have saved nearly half to full price by putting those monthly payment amounts into our savings account.
Makes replacement time a lot more fun!
  • I bought my first TT back in 2002... I still have it to this day! :) It's been paid for since around 2005... :)

I've done TONS of mods to it over that time to make it "mine" and I've had several "offers" to buy it from folks that see it and ask!

I always say "no, but thanks for the offer"...

I would love to have a bigger, fancier rig, but when it comes down to dollars and "sense".. I just can't do it!

I did get a new tow vehicle and that's been great! But, since I only need so much to go "camping", this works great for me.. :)

  • It is often said to buy your second trailer first. So I looked and looked and researched for over a year before buying the one I have now. Have had it three years, and yes, to me, my "first" trailer is my keeper. I still love going out traveling in it. I have made numerous little mods to it to fit my own needs better. And yes, now that it's a few years old ( 2012 ) the annual county personal taxes are dropping down cheaper, and will drop a lot more in the next two years, so that's good.

  • That is basically how we purchased all our RVs

Kinda the same with our vehicles too.

Never was into the 'gotta have cause it's new' crowd

Was more into the 'it is time to replace' crowd
  • I wish I would have kept our first one and just kept fixing it. I finally finally got most of the bugs worked out and sold it for home improvements. Lol...that's the way it goes I suppose.

    Thanks!
