Anyone run a Ram 3500 with 6.4 Hemi?

Looking into a 13,500 lb gvw fifth wheel. It weighs too much for my F250. Does anyone pull anything that heavy with a 6.4? If so, how do you like it? Does it handle the mountains?

  • Are you comfortable with hearing a gas engine rev? You ain't gonna go up the hills hauling that kinda weight pulling 2500 rpms.. Probably closer to around 3500+, that's for sure... ;)

Will you get up the hills? Sure.. Will it be up to your expectations?

Bottom line is the N/A gas engine is gonna rev more than a turbo diesel or even a turbo gas engine...

    Good luck!

  • No opposed to a diesel, I have a 2012 f250 psd now. I was just contemplating a big fifth wheel vs large tt and didn't want to shell out 10k + for a diesel if the 6.4 could do the trick. I could sell my truck and buy a new 6.4 for about the same money.
  • Are you set against a diesel? I know the 6.4 is very capable but that's a lot of weight and if your going to be towing in the mountains, the Cummins is well worth it.

OTOH, I bought a new Challenger SRT 392 and I can tell you that listening to that big Hemi turning 3 or 4K up a hill would be pure music!
