Exactly. Mine is different than yours, and having done it both ways, I'll stick with what I've learned.
And we're not racing our towing combos. I couldn't care less if a sports car is faster than my truck when towing a trailer. I tow at a moderate speed and have encountered a lot of hairy situations over the years and never had a problem with control.
The slalom tests I submitted as objective evidence the various comments about stability are uninformed, not advocating racing.
I figure use the best tool for the job, hence why I have typically had a couple of tow vehicles on the go simultaneously and I use which one makes sense for the trip I'm on. For me a full size truck is just too many disadvantages, or compromises, and is simply not required until at a larger trailer then we want.
There are lots of other people like us. It's sad the sales hype and lack of technical expertise at the dealers means too many people's options are limited.
