Maybe my question should have been does it seem worth it?
ABSOLUTELY! - goducks10ExplorerYou can do a DPF delete with SIMs and get similar results without a tuner. You just need a code reader to turn off the occasional CEL.

Is it worth it? lets see you just spent $85k on that new truck and it throws codes and won't idle in the winter constantly going into limp mode plus the remote starter doesn't work if there is a CEL. Sure the dealer will take care of you, but you are an 8 hour one way drive away. Even the undeleteable 2013/14's with DEF can't operate in extreme cold and it's $600 for a DPF cleaning not covered under warranty. If you have a 2012 and down it's worth it.
$85K:E..Not hardly....Have been down to a VERY blustery -8 below zero and no issues with the DEF, truck not being able to idle or going into limp mode..but it's a 13'.....Haven't had a CEL yet and have 19,500miles on my truck with zero issues. I hadn't planned on doing any deletes on my 13', got more than enough HP and TQ and again, no problems with DEF in very cold weather, no CEL's, no issues:) - JustLabsExplorer

Thanks for the reply. I am well aware of warranty policies and I know the mileage on my truck and I have the ability to estimate when it will be out of warranty. Your post is what I am trying to get a feel for; real life experiences from those who tow with deleted egr's. Maybe my question should have been does it seem worth it?
Anyway, thanks for the reply.
I had an '07 5.9 that was identical to his truck other than color and engine. I routinely got 2-3mpg better fuel economy than his 6.7.
A by-product of deleting his truck was an instant increase in fuel mileage. Basically matching what my pre-DPF 5.9 got.
It was right around $700 to delete his truck. IIRC this fall will be the second year its been deleted. He has already made up the cost of the kit in fuel mileage.
Now he has a truck that runs like it should and gets better mileage.
Its a win-win. - oilslickExplorerIs it worth it? lets see you just spent $85k on that new truck and it throws codes and won't idle in the winter constantly going into limp mode plus the remote starter doesn't work if there is a CEL. Most if not all delete tuners offer "stock" power level options. So just because you tune to delete the emission doesn't mean one has to crank up the power levels.
My dad is running the stock power setting on the Smarty Jr. He didn't want, and still doesn't want any more power.
He just wants a reliable truck that doesn't need a monthly visit to the dealer. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

That has been my experience, no dealer ever hinted at a warranty refusal because my truck had been chipped...Over 200K now, it was chipped at 20K....the chip/tuner has more than paid for itself. Others may have a different story, I can only relate my personal experience with a Dodge/Dodge dealers.

I am guessing your RAM is a few years old. They have spent a lot of money to detect if anything has been done to these newer trucks and will deny warranty if messed with. - GemstoneExplorer"He even said they get trucks in with deletes and they would do everything not to void the warranty. We deleted my dad's '07.5 6.7
He is running the Smarty Jr ME.
In his case it was the only way to keep that POS out of the dealers service dept.
^^THIS^^ is why many delete. While the current emissions systems do a great job of cleaning up the exhaust they have turned diesels which were once considered reliable workhorses into temperamental limp mode vehicles. It is a double edged sword as you will loose any remaining powertrain warranty once you tune.
My BIL 09 RAM was always in the shop for CEL/soot clogged emissions. Even the diesel tech was suggesting to perform a delete to get around the problem. He even said they get trucks in with deletes and they would do everything not to void the warranty. Having said that he didn't want to take the risk of warranty denial that couldn't been covered up by the dealer or the dealer change their policy and just decided to get rid of that truck.
I wouldn't even consider deleting a truck under warranty.
When performing the deletes with a 6.7 cummins and you have to install a programmer to handle the changes. Along with this programmer comes some extra power and the 6.7's head gaskets/head bolts don't play well with the extra power. This is a repair you don't want to have to deal with.
