Anyone towing with Ford 2.7 EcoBoost?

Don't know, but around here 90% of the new F150's on the dealer lots have the 2.7 engine.

Go to the F150forum.com and many get poor economy as the 3.5L Ecoboost. Some say they get 28 mpg. So most likely if you drive like a grandma and stay out of the turbo, you'll get mileage similar to a 2.7L V6 and when in the turbo, mileage similar to a 5.0L.

I have more power on both ends, torque and HP with my 5.0L and get pretty good mileage. I get about 18.5 mixed and 21.5 Expressway. Towing I got around 10.5 mpg with no wind and about 9.5 mpg with high winds.

Many complain about the 2.7L engine shutting off at stops and restarting when the brake pedal is released. Annoys the **** out of many to the point they jumpered wires to keep the engine running permanently. There is a switch to keep it running but it has to be pressed everytime you start the truck. The big gripe is that the AC goes off as well in 100 degree heat and why many want the engine to stay on.

BUT next year the 3.5L Ecoboost will have the engine shutoff feature as well.

I like the 5.0L the best. Instant go and plenty enough torque to tow my trailer. I like the characteristics better than the Ecoboosts.

In 2015 dealer was stocking mostly 2.7L and 3.5L Ecoboosts. 2016 the dealer is stocking mostly 5.0L. They usually stock what sells the best or what customers want.

I've got the 3.5 Ecoboost in my 2013 F150. It has been flawless. Love the performance. The turbo can be addictive and really kills the mileage. Lots of youngsters on the F150 forum complain of poor mileage because of a heavy foot.

Mixed town/rural I get 18.5 mpg. On the Interstate driving around 70 mph, I average 21.5 mpg. On a recent trip to Texas where the speed limit was 75 mph and also had to drive freeways in Dallas where consistent speed is impossible, mileage dropped to 15 mpg. Towing our 25' Outback, I get 10.5 mpg. The Ecoboost pulls the Outback with ease. The only issue I had was with the soft P metric OEM tires. Now have Load Range E Hankook and the truck handles like it is on rails.

Mileage & performance. Everyone says real life you get the same ish mileage and better performance out of the 3.5 or 5.0. Haven't found anybody who prefers driving the 2.7 not that its not peppy just in comparison. If you don't need a fast truck soon Ford may have a small diesel which would get a lot better mileage and tow better.

I am towing with the 2.7 and so far it has been very strong. I have not towed much so I can't comment on mileage yet.

Without the trailer I average around 11L/100 km at 115-120km/h highway.
