I am hauling a 2900lbs camper on a 2012 F350 4x4 6.2 / 6spd Torqshift towing a 20ft enclosed trailer at 3200lbs +/-. Performance is decent. The trans has a useful manual mode that will hold gears nicely. Grade braking feature works ok. The engine is multi-fuel - I’ve never used 85% ethanol. It pulls happier on 91 vs 87 at everyday rpm 2000-3500. 9-10mpg in calm airs, 7mpg in 30mph head wind in 4th at 3500rpm. Mpg hand ciphered cruising at 60-65mph on western roads. Engine will pull hard at over 4000rpm. Dash fuel mpg is within 1/10th mpg. Apparently 5-Star tunes tidy up the transmission shift personality for tow/hauling. A camper stuck up in the air makes a great downhill air brake.
I’ll get laughed at for not actually knowing what axle ratio I have, but road gear (6th) is really tall - 1600 rpm? at 70mph - gives decent mpg empty for a tall truck but useful for towing downhill. 5 and 6 are overdrive ratios. It is quiet and nice handling (for a twuck).
The Fast Lane Truck crew dyno’d a 2017 6.2 vs a new 7.3. Results were interesting...
