Apex 251RBK Towing

We are in the process of upgrading from a popup to an Apex 251RBK. We've looked at a lot of trailers and this one seems to have the floorplan and quality we were looking for, and we have friends who really like theirs. I'm going to tow it with my Tacoma at first, we don't expect to go far with it initially. In a year or so, I plan to upgrade to a full-size truck. The Tacoma will pull up to 6400lbs, and the weight of the camper when we pull it should be around 5500, so I think it will be ok for shorter trips. I was wondering what experience others might have had with Tacomas. I've owned two and think they are outstanding vehicles.
  • We towed a Jayco TT with our 2007 Tacoma Pre Runner with the long wheelbase. We made it one season before switching to our current TV. You will definitely know it’s back there. Make sure you have a good hitch setup and don’t plan on getting up to speed very quickly as the V-6 will be working hard and revving high. The engine can handle the revving, though you might be a bit nervous.
I strongly recommend towing the rig once loaded and see how much you weigh.
