Apex or Freedom Express

Does anyone have an Apes or Freedom Express? We really like the floor plan of the Passport 285RL, however I have seen two with delamination problems so I am trying to find another brand. I am looking to keep the dry weight around 5K

The Apex 278RL is the same floor plan and so is the Freedom Express 280RL.

I am also looking for a used or a last year model. When is the best time to shop.

Thanks
  • We owned a 2010 Freedom Express 230BH, it was a fantastic trailer, never had a problem in the 50+ nights we camped in it, both dry camping and full hook up!
  • Have a Apex288BHS Really like it, Towes great, and the Azdel walls have a higher insulation R value than standard fiberglass. they are also lighter, and stronger.

having said that. Either TT will do what you want.
  • I don't have any of these trailers but have looked at them, different models though.

Other than the azdel walls, the major difference I noted are in the axle/wheels. The Keystone Passport & Cougars have heavier duty 15" tires and heavier rated axles giving you more of a "cushion" there.

Also the Keystone Passport & Cougars have heating ducted through the underbelly with floor vents. And I suspect they have better 4 season capabilities.

By the way, if looking for used, I think the freedom express just started using Azdel in 2013, not sure about apex.

EDIT: and the Apex has the Select and Standard series which are quite different trailers
  • I have a 2011 Apex 26BHS - no issues to date. The newer ones have better floor plans I think - looks like you are not interested in the bunks. My dry weight is less than 5K lbs and it tows like a dream with my F-150. I would recommend the Apex brand and would purchase another.

As for the right time to shop - I just browsed rvtrader.com and found a great price that was worth me driving 2 states over to pick it up.
