I don't think a gasser will ever pull like a diesel, but I also don't think today's diesels will get the mpg the older ones do (2006 and older). Emissions regs have choked some of the mpg and all of the simplicity out of them. The new ones do pull like crazy though - that part they have definitely improved on.
