Since the highly stressed, Direct Injection, EcoBoost type small turbo-gas engines are starting to put out formerly small diesel range torque at low rpm, I would think we are going to see similar repair bills. Even the EB pistons are almost certainly heavier than N/A versions. The gasoline DI is high pressure, though maybe not as high as fuel oil DI must be.
The Ram 6.4L has the oil squirter design for the piston bottoms, although we have not seen many overheated, "holed" pistons in modern high output N/A engines. It certainly cost more to do so. Why do it? There is, of course, HP competition amongst manufacturers, but as of late, there is the pressure to meet new EPA mandates also. What is Ram's plan here?
