Nope, gas engines will never catch up to the expense of repairs compared to a diesel.
:D
I agree totally with the above often posted blanket smug-mug statement. Diesel engine/systems repair = expensive.
Now factor in 1/2 the fuel mpg over 100,000 miles working the truck at near capacity 1/2 the time. How does the math look now? $7000 in favor of the diesel?
OMG what if neither truck needed any repair in 100,000 miles which is totally possible?
But would the gas truck be more or less "wore out" than the diesel and have depreciated more or less per month?
gotta go here comes my therapist... :E
Half the mpg? I never saw better than 20% higher fuel mileage with my diesels. If it were 50%, I'd still own one.:h
This is all quite true. Diesel vs gas? It doesn't really matter in the end. Choose whichever you want and go with it. Whichever one reduces stress in your life.
Some people find it extremely stressful to have a gas motor turn RPM to do the work. Some find the expense of owning a diesel financially stressful and don't mind the RPM's of a gasser.
In the end...we have a hobby that is relatively expensive no matter our choice...gas vs diesel is just part of the debate.
To honestly answer the op.....it depends on your perspective...in some peoples perspective a gas motor is a grocery getter and they will never catch up. In others perspective the gasses do just fine for the required work and they choose gas...for those people the diesel will never catch up to the economy of a gas motor.
So pick your favorite, they are both expensive and will both do the job :-)
Thanks!
