Are murphy bed's comfortable???

We have had a pop up for 12 years. Last summer we were so ready for a TT due to rain on every camping trip! We pull with a Honda Ridgeline that is able to pull 5,000. We need bunks and a queen bed. We are intrigued by the 209BH Solaire. It is the right size and has a murphy bed making it roomier. But my question is- is it comfortable??? A local dealership told me they won't sell them as people have buyers remorse when buying a camper with a murphy bed. I also have to mention I am looking for a comfortable bed as I had a car accident last year and the pop up is no longer comfortable. Thanks for the help!

  • Ascend makes a A231BH that is similar with a standard bed in it. probably about the same weight but doesn't have a TPO or rubber roof.
I would say to never buy a TT based on the GVWR. buy it based on the actual weight plus "stuff".

  • I agree with Bumpy. I think its going to depend on the mattress.

I'd be more concerned about towing that thing with a Ridgeline. Yes, it has a 5k capacity. But the GVWR of the trailer is 7,550 lbs. Never, ever buy a trailer based on the dry weight. That's a fictional number and not the true weight you will be towing. That's just going to be too much trailer for the Ridgeline. Your "buyers remorse" might end up being about lack of towing ability and not the bed. Towing a travel trailer, especially one that size, is a far different experience than towing a pop-up.
  • What about a big pop-up or a hybrid? Both offer lots of floor space in a smaller package that could be towable with your Ridgeline. 5000# isn't going to get you much in a full TT. We put a 3" memory foam topper on top of our pop-up's bed and it was quite comfy.
  • I would guess it all depends on the mattress that is used. The Doctor's office where I get my sleep studies done uses Murphy beds in their various "bed rooms" so if they are studying your sleep patterns, I would guess that they work. :)
but you would have to find one of those units and try the bed out to see.
