I don't actually think this is good advice, although well intentioned. The reason I say this is that manufacturers have been known to not rate pickup trucks for any slide in camper at all because they have a snow plow prep package, under the idea that some idiot will plow snow with the camper on.
For most of our trucks, GVWR - empty weight will get you a good starting point. Of course we also need to assure we have a thousand pounds left for people and our stuff inside as well.
