I made the comparison almost ten years ago with my '03 250hp/460tq SO Cummins Ram to a duplicate '05 345hp/365tq Hemi powered 2500HD towing the same 5th wheel over the same routes around the southeast including Monteagle Pass. The Hemi towed faster up the grades although at 30%~ higher rpm and about 30% higher fuel consumption. 100 more hp beats 100ft/lbs more torque every time on paper and on the road. HP is the rate at which work is done. You can't get around that fact.
That tells me a lot. Your Hemi had a 25% torque deficit, yet did better on uphills. In my situation the hemi has only about a 8% torque deficit. I'm sticking with gas. 50% more HP will do its talking on the hills.
