Most often the generator is kept in the back of the tow vehicle and set next to the TT when in use.  Always secure it with a heavy lock and chain or cable.
I've seen the TT rear bumper extended and the generator mounted inside of a steel mesh cage. OR a receiver hitch on the back of the TT with the generator mounted to square tubing and a mounting plate slid into the receive and locked in place.
Whatever you do make sure it is well secured, don't skimp and go with cheap locks, cables or chains use big heavy stuff. Generators are one of the most common items stolen from RVers.
