Most common method, as attached to a TT, is the rear bumper.
Although this method typically requires reinforcement of the rear bumper. Also, most folks will incorporate the use of a 2" hitch receiver tube in their construction so that the generator mounting assembly can be removed easily.
You may want to include THIS in your plans, if you decide to go that route.

On EDIT: Another thought, I like the idea for transporting but don't want the genertor on either the tongue or rear bumper when in use. I prefer to remove it & place it some distance from the RV.
