Anutami has been in touch with me several times over the past few weeks about this incident. It occurred on a remote stretch of dirt road at Anza Borrego State Park in CA during a wind storm. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and both the truck and camper were fully insured. Apparently, the rear, passenger side Happijac tie down failed during one excessive gust of wind which placed all of the force on this one tie down. For sure, this splice is an example of shoddy workmanship, but I find it hard to believe that this is standard practice at Northwood Manufacturing. If this was the case there would be other reports of this happening. That simply isn't the case. At Anutami's request, I inspected my Wolf Creek 850 again yesterday and it shows no signs of such splicing.
