The "Splice" is not the issue here. The fact that the thin piece of plywood was only attached with a few wood screws and not secured to the front panel and the side of the camper with some type of angle aluminum is the issue.
My Palomino Bronco (Yea, I know, folks on this forum have low esteem of Palomino)but my camper was coming apart exactly like this one did. Huge bolts holding the tie down plate (which actually doubles as the jack point) but the plywood the plate was attached to was only held on with four wood screws at the front, screwed into a piece of 3/4 X 3/4 pine!. I caught it in time and added angle aluminum to attach the jack pad to the side of the camper with through bolts.
