I agree with all who are implying flex is mandatory (some sort of spring loaded turnbuckle). But Mike I want to try and correct a comment you have been making. The Happijac IS mounted to the frame (as opposed to the bed). The reason is to prevent tearing these new beautiful truck beds apart as they are some sort of metal composite (added fiberglass? for weight reduction and increased mileage I believe). The folks at Happijac told me that when they sold me on their method after I bought a new truck. I know, I know, trusting what a manufacturure said. ;)
The frame connection is from the front across the bed bar through el brackets through the floor of the bed and to the frame. Granted, it is a more circuitous route than is the Torklift, but.... as the article above stated, it may well be the better design due to the far forward mounting points.
In all fairness, I am unfamiliar with the Torklift design, I just don't like the parts all hanging down, and that may just be the traditionalist in me speaking. Even so, Wolf Creek says use the Torklifts, I would change to them if I bought a Wolf Creek if for no other reason than warranty coverage.
I also believe the Torklifts are heavier duty than the Happijac, and today's larger, heavier campers may well require such design. Personally, I do not WANT a large heavy slide-in. If I need that much space I guess I better go to a class C or something if I still need to tow. We have tried the travel trailer thing, and even at only 29' it is too big for our style of travel. But we still have it. :)
