Short bed sounds like it will do the trick with a super cab, not interested in modifying with extra gas tank etc. there's certainly a mixed view on whether a 2500 or 3500 would be better. It seems both would be adequat which gives more choices.

I have never had a problem finding diesel fuel on what you call B roads. I have driven across Montana on MT 200, a state road, from Glendive to Great Falls,several hundred miles. Of course I can go over 300 miles between fill ups. At home I fill up in small town America,population 5k. Have a awesome trip.
