The newer 2500 diesel trucks have GVWRs up to 10000 lbs with 6100-6200 RAWR (rear axle weight ratings). The rear axle on a pickup truck will carry 99 percent if not all of a trailers hitch weight.
The 3500 SRWs vary a bunch in their payload potential. A quick run down would go like this;
The F350 SRW Ford has GVWRS from 10000 lbs up to 11500 lbs with a 6290 RAWR and a 6730 RAWR and a 7000 RAWR all depending on truck packages and selections.
The F350 DRW has a 14000 GVWR with 9650 RAWR.
GM (chevy and GMC) 3500 SRW has a 11400 GVWR with a 7050 RAWR. The 3500 DRW has 13025 GVWR with 9850 RAWR
The Ram 3500 SRW has GVWRs up to 12400 lbs and 7000 RAWR. The 3500 DRW has a 14000 GVWR and 9750 RAWR.
Kinda long but will give you a idea of the payload difference potential between a 3/4 ton and a one ton single rear wheel and the one ton dual rear wheel truck. I would get with a recommended Ford/Ram or GM truck dealer and work with them on getting the truck you need. Some dealer ships may be big but don't sell many of these type trucks and aren't very truck savvy.
G'day, we found a site with all specs on dodge ram and if the RAWR is the same as the payload then I don't know where u got your info because this site we found suggests the payload is more like 3000 lbs for the Ram 3500 SRW.
What do you mean by 3/4 ton & 1 ton, what is the difference?
Thanks for all your help including earlier post on diesel fuel types, I didn't know any of that and may of got caught out.
