GVWR is the max truck is a loved to veigh in Ausralia say 10000lb new F250 les vehicles ovn weight say 7000lb my truck gives you 3000lb payload now take of weight of FW hitch 200lb family 500lb you have 2300lb left for stuf in truck and pin weight and that is not dry weight as per manufactures but loaded with gas water groceries etc. most say to allow 20% of FW GVWR if you plan on say 12000lb say pin around 2400 but som newer a fair bit lighter. But yes find out what FW weighs first then match truck to it.
