My wife & I have been before, we cycle toured the West coast & across Canada so we got to ride the Rockies, they are big mothers. It's such a diverse & beautiful country, we can't wait. I was going to get a Turbo diesel, I really like the look of the Dodge Ram 3500 megacab (for the kids) with Cummings motor & so does my wife which is a bonus. :) next choice is Chev, have never been a Ford man for whatever reason.
That must have been some adventure. And you would be fully familiar with the affects of altitude lugging 60-70? lb's of bike and touring gear over the Rockies.
I moved to Colorado to ride the Rockies on two wheels myself. The first 10 years I was on mountain bikes and now I'm lucky enough to live near endless miles of dirt bike trails right along the continental divide. SoI'm enjoying a big bore two stroke and the pushy is collecting dust.
All the new trucks look good to me, it would be hard to decide. I have an 03' Ram Cummins with a few performance mods & programmer. It's a basic truck with a 6sp but I love it. Towing or not it's just eats up the miles in the Rockies. I can lug that 9,000 lb beast down to 40mph in 6th gear, up a slight hill, at 10,000ft towing a 5,000lb (loaded) Caravan.
These big diesel trucks are man caves on wheels :B Have fun shopping for your truck!
