Australian style TTs now available in the US -- big news!

For years, I have whined that the rugged Aussie caravans are not available in the US, and that there is no USA made substitute.

Well, here we go:

Black Series

Very expensive, but for those of us who really want to boondock in rough country, it may be worth it.

Check out the components -- very beefy!

Nice match for the rumored 2020 Toyota diesel for North America.

Is the price better or worse than having a trailer custom built from the ground up?

The 2020 Toyota diesel is said to produce only 310 pound feet of torque. I hope this is a miss-print because this is rather anemic considering the 5.7 gas is 401 pound feet.
  • colliehauler, the answer is "none, so far." But I fear it is only a matter of time. We tow on very rough forest roads, with huge rocks, mud, sand, snow, ice, etc. And we have to go very slowly on the really bad roads -- five miles an hour, sometimes.

I have done everything I can to up-armor my beloved little trailer -- heavy axle, leaf springs, shocks, beefy tires, extra clearance, etc. But it is just not designed for the way I like to go camping.

I doubt I will spring for one of these new trailers just yet -- $50,000 is four times as much as what I paid for my current trailer -- but someday I may have to bite the bullet.

It's nice to have the option, anyway.

Gordon, I had a heck of a time even getting a custom builder to respond to my inquiries, when I was shopping for a trailer in 2012. In the midwest, there are some, but none in southern Calif that were even interested. So I could see buying a very expensive back-country unit, right off the rack, rather than going the custom route.

Until then, I will continue taking my little ultra-light into some very rough places, hoping that it holds together! :)
How many things have failed on your camper as far as frame and components?
