We have a 2003 Dodge 3500 diesel 4x4 with the 47 RE trans. We use it for towing and at 140,000 I decided to have it rebuilt before we had any major issues. Our local trans shop rebuilt it and upgraded the torque converter to a Billet. The out the door cost was just shy of $2500.
We now have 185,000 on the truck and the trans has been flawless. The truck is completely stock and does not have a HO motor.
