My wife bought me an auxiliary fuel tank and accessories for Christmas a few years ago. It was one of the best things she's ever gotten me.
It is the width of the bed, as tall as the rails, and about 8" deep. It says the capacity is 36 gallons, but will easily hold 40 gallons with room for expansion. I have a 12V pump and nozzle that I bought off Craigslist, to transfer fuel from the auxiliary tank to the truck tank. Not fancy, but requires no direct connection to the truck tank, and is easy to use. Total cost was under $400 for everything: tank, pump, and all.
Transfer-Flow tanks are spiffy without a doubt, but I'm a cheapskate and if I can save $1000, I will. I figure I can use that money to buy fuel instead. :)
The auxiliary tank will allow you to fill when you want to, not when low fuel demands that you do. We fill at the end of the day when the truck is unhooked from our 40' toyhauler. No worries about getting into or out of a station. We can also take rest breaks at a place of our choosing, not a noisy, smelly fuel station.
