Avion to truck window connection

Annie and I travel with our two German Shepherds. I'd like to put a sliding window in the front of the Avion and then use a boot to seal it to the back of the truck's sliding window. Has anyone retrofitted a slider into their Avion? One of the old Avion ads posted on this site has a picture of two kids grinning at their mom thru the open sliding windows...
I suspect I could have a slider custom made here in northern CA. And I see several boot styles available online that seals the windows together. Anyone have experience with the window retrofit and the boot issue? Thanks.
BTW, Dave, the fantastic blacksmith, shows up tomorrow morning to discuss the aluminum tub concept as a replacement for the rotted plywood. I'll keep you all posted on that project.

  • It's one of the things I have to address with mine (C-11) but have yet come up with a solution for the window.
To get one with a wide enough opening the overall width of the window is as wide or wider than the front bulkhead.
I had thought of making up a hatch that can be removed when the camper is loaded, then waterproofing becomes an issue.
So if you come up with something, I'll be interested.

  • When my GSD was younger she crawled thru from the camper to the truck rear seat as she pleased, I had a lance style foam boot on a northstar ,and one Outfitter provided me for it
Here in the Sacramento area theres a large rv recycler called RV Doctor George that has a lot , I mean a lot of camper windows .You might call then and see if they can do somthing for you.916-927-7837
  • The last truck that I had the Avion permanently attached to was a 1977 Chevy K-30 dually. It had a boot attached to the factory sliding rear window. When I parked the camper, many years ago, I couldn't find the original window to put back on the camper. It was one of the ways that birds entered the camper over the years. I had a custom made sliding window made through Home Depot of all places. I think that it was about $175 or so, as I recall.
  • Maybe a boat deck access hatch could be mounted so it opens into the camper and swings up, or swings to one side, then a hook could hold it open?
