Awning cleaning

The underneath of my awning was getting dirty.....So, after watching some videos online, I decided to do it the easy way which they call the two beer system !

I bought a 2 gal. garden sprayer...... Mix four parts water, one part bleach and some Dawn dish soap. Sprayed the awning, , rolled it back up and waited.
I don't drink beer unless it's very hot, so I had a few glasses of white wine with my wife, sitting on our lounge chairs in the front yard.
After an hour, I rolled down the awning and rinse it thoroughly......WOW !!! all white again, and didn't affect the upper color of the awning.

Conclusion: it works!

When you sprayed, did you start next to the wall, or did you spray a bit along the edge and roll a bit up, then spray some more. As it rolls, did it clean the top too?

sprayed the whole awning without rolling....once it was all covered, I rolled it up.
It cleans the top as well when you roll it back up.

I can't see why magic eraser is easier.....I don't have to scrub. And with my COPD, scrubbing would mean lose my breath right away!
  • Yep - water/bleach b4 roll up works great. Best to wear something you don't mind bleach spots on when you perform.
  • Mr. Clean Magic Mop. Greatest thing going. Wet the awning, scrub with the mop, 10minits later...a very clean awning.

    No muss, no fuss.
  • Easiest way is with a magic eraser mop. Wet the awing, wet the mop, mop the awning and rinse with water and let it dry..
  • It always amazes me we can use bleach on our colorful awnings without damage but it definitely works!
BTW, for even better cleaning power, add some TSP instead of soap (basically what 30 Seconds cleaner is).
