I also installed our lights by going up over the roof and down the fridge vent and tapped the 12-volt from the fridge. I then covered the wire on the roof with Eternabond tape so that I know nothing can grab it and pull it loose. I have mine mounted to the awning roller and unplug it when rolling it up. For the winter storage I covered both the pins and the end of the light with dielectric grease. I have the control box mounted to the inside of the fridge vent cover and have the IR receiver sticking out.
That's kind of the route I was thinking, especially with putting the hardware in the fridge panel with the eye sticking out. We don't have a problem doing electrical work at home but we've never done it with a TT. We only got the TT in September so we still have 1.5 years to go on the warranty and would hate to have a problem with something because the lights screwed up the fridge somehow.
