Axle spacing on new TT ?

I see several manufactures have started spacing the axles further apart on their TT's. My questions are; does this seem to give the TT more stability while towing, and how are tires and axles holding up under the stresses when backing this unit into tight rv spaces.
Thanks
Bill
  • 3 years now with the wide spread axles. I don't see any excessive wear and it pulls fine. I figure the benefits of straight line towing outweigh the added stress of tight manoeuvres...I drive for hours to campsites but spend 2 minutes backing in and out.
  • Better weight distribution. We had a spread but sold it, now we have a 36 inch again.
  • Towing stability should be better while traveling down the highway, if the trailer is set-up level for towing…

The down side is tire scrubbing and the lack of equalization between the axles… there are always tradeoffs… but I never had the spread axle design or the rubber suspended axles…
  • Out new TT has the wide spaced axles. The jury is still out but I'm leaning toward the "don't like" side due to the scuffing on turns. It really folds the sidewalls over on the tires.
