Back to a TT

Tried a pop up truck camper for a few months beginning in April. It worked really well, as long as I was traveling. When I started parking for a week or more at a time, I realized how much I missed the larger kitchen, bigger shower, extra storage, and seating for watching television that a TT offers. I may get another TC someday, although the Happijac system looks kind of lonesome on my pickup right now Thanks for sharing TC information and experiences on RV.Net

Not sure why you are quoting the word "inconvenient". I never used that word. If I was going to be traveling day after day, I would have kept the TC or purchased a Class B. I am not preaching against TC's, one did not work as well as a TT for my current use. Unlike some on here, I do not have all the answers and have to try things for myself. BTW, I found the TC pretty darned convenient a lot of the time.
  • In the past ten years, I have had several travel trailers, a fifth wheel, and a couple of truck campers. I love them all. Just not the best time for a TC.
  • I had a TC and loved it, then sold my truck and got a FJ Cruiser so was relegated to having TTs. I really miss having a TC now and wish I could go back, but can't afford it. The TC has so many more advantages when it comes to travel and being able to camp and go anywhere.

I probably would have been happier with a $35,000 plus truck camper, but I was unwilling to spend that kind of money to find out. I don't regret trying a TC, but it was not the best thing for me at this time.

I am sure you could find a less expensive used hard side...our first one cost less...MUCH less, and we used it for 10 yrs.

Comparing a small popup TC to a TT is apples/oranges.

In any case good luck, try the TT for a while and see if you like that. If you do tend to stay put when you camp...the TT may be just the ticket.

I'm probably not far behind you except I all ready have my TT. I love my TC for the back trails but I'm getting to a point in my life where I would rather camp in a comfortable rig and travel the trails in an ATV. Much easier on the old back!!

Opposite ends of the spectrum; a small popup TC vs a TT.

    Tough to compare.

Our single slide TC has as much useable space as our 25' TT.
We used the Airstream 1 week this year...the TC will see at least 50 nights use...just so much easier to deal with.

What do you have for a truck (fill out your sig)? Maybe a larger TC is an option?
  • I understand fully. Just got back from 6 week stay with my 98 lance 990 legend 11' 6. " model with a dry bath. It is fine with DW and I or just myself but with 2 grandkids it got a little tight. With 2 more grandkids on the way and would like to bring our dog next time. One of my older sons slept in camper 2 nights also.. Our doggie day care bill for 6 weeks was a killer!! Time to move up to a bigger rv.
  • There is a lot to be said for more room when camping in one place for weeks at a time.Everything is a compromise.
