Back Up Draw Bars

I was wondering if anyone carried a back up draw bar for your combo incase your weight distribution hitch fails?

I had a WD hitch fail at a campground once and after that I went and bought a weight carrying draw bar capable of carrying the full tongue weight of my camper. This went with me camping every time just as a back up in case I get a failure again.

I use sway bars so I will be having two sway bar tabs added to my draw bar when we buy our next TT.

Thanks!

Jeremiah

  • I carry a regular draw bar in my truck, but it only has a 2" ball on it for my little utility trailer..

Never thought I'd have to use it for my TT, but if I had to, and I could swap the balls, it would work for my TT..

But I've had my EAZ-LIFT WD hitch for over 15 years now, towing my #5000 TT, so never an issue there.

    No 'sway bars' either..

But, if the 'sway bars' work for you, use them.. That's all I can say.

    Good luck!

  • When metal was so valuable a few years ago, I was more afraid of some crack-head stealing it than anything else.
  • I've got an adjustable drop hitch that lives in the back of my van. I'd have to swap the ball (it has a 2" ball on it) but would work in a pinch I guess.
  • I've never seen a draw bar fail. I cracked one once when we bounced it off a curb but it still worked until I got it welded up.
It's such a remote chance that it just doesn't seem like I need a backup.
