For me, I've found the best practice has been at the actual campsite. There is also practice backing up and into the driveway prior to trips.
The deal with the campground I've found is that everyone is usually watching. Sometimes we camp with other friends, and there is some added pressure if they are there already to "do it right". At the end of the day though, most people are very helpful, and I've never had to ask anyone to assist me.
The most stressful time was in a extremely busy campground, in which we had a very unusual site placement. People are waiting to get by, and I have to unhook the wd bars and whatnot, and they are coming up and telling me they are waiting? I mean really? Not sure what that was all about, I understand you are waiting but what would you like me to do?
In the end with that one, we had enough room to pull straight in (which is usually not an accepted method) and unhook, and still get the truck out (and back in later to hook back up). So you learn this kind of stuff along the way.
Also for me a spotter is fine, but I only need to know if I am about ot hit something or jackknife the truck. A lot of time people think they are helping me by saying more this way or that way, only to become frustrated when I am not listening to them. Sure its helpful, but our trailer isn't big enough I can't do it on my own, so there is no need. Just tell me if I'm too close to something, thats all. Again everyone has their own methods though.
