Over the last 35 years of trailering, we have developed our backing technique fairly well. He drives, I spot. We bought a set of inexpensive walkie talkies to communicate with each other rather than the yelling method we so often see. It did take some adjusting when we have changed trailers, but it comes into place fairly quickly.
I used to do all the backing when we were younger and had small trailers. Now it is his turn. The only time I am behind the wheel now is when we hook the pickup to the trailer. He is much better at directing me for that than I am at directing him.
