You definitely do not want to do any sharp turns in 4WD - either Hi or Lo on a hard surface. If you try it your truck will try to imitate a bucking bronco. ( been there a long time ago)
However going in a straight line is not a problem in 4WD.
Shifting into 4WD LO on a 2017 Silverado does require the truck to be stopped and in neutral. It takes a minute or so. The DIC will have a message saying 4 wheel drive shift in progress. When done the message disappears and an orange light appears on the drive selector knob showing the drive mode that is engaged.
I just tried it on my 2017 Silverado. When the shift was complete the truck as in 4WD Lo. No rolling was necessary.
So I see no problem in doing the turns in 2WD and do the stright uphill in 4WD LO
