BarryG20, I once lost a rear drive shaft ujoint in my 1979 F250 4WD. I didn't have much for spare change back then, so I pulled the rear driveshaft, tossed it in the back, locked the front hubs, threw the lever in 4Hi, and continued to drive the truck that way for a month, with no memorably ill effect, before I could afford to have the rear prop shaft re-trued by a shop.
