Backing with stabilizers
I have heard that you cannot back with stabilizers on. I expect no sharp turns but doesn't seem reasonable not to be able to back with them on. What's the truth?

Anti-sway bars? Your question seems to match the behavior you are describing that should be avoided. If so, you can back with anti-sway bars attached, but straight as possible and no sharp turns. If you still need to maneuver more to get back into your spot, then remove the anti-sway bars and continue.
