This because at least according to this link, a dealer is obliged to collect a 7% sales tax on total trailer cost at time of sale. Could be pushing a thousand bucks right there, especially if other related State-due fees are also added in.
No SC is great the tax cap is $300 on cars, boats, RV's, and airplanes. There is a yearly property tax but that's not collected by the dealer and I'm not sure if TT count as you don't need to register them..So the $300 tax was on top of all the dealer fees etc.
Also by including the accessories in with the contract on the unit, you don't pay tax on them either. Where as getting them after the fact you would.
