bad starter......

have a blown starter in my 2009 F150- She is stuck in driveway and my mechanic is literally around the corner- This may be a stupid question- He suggested pushing or towing with another vehicle to the shop- How do we do that when it's not possible to turn the steering wheel?
  • I have fixed 2 "bad Starters" in the past week. Both had dirty or loose battery terminals. Check them yourself.
  • Call a mobile mechanic. They can knock this job out in no time. Like others said, if you turn your key on, you can steer the truck, just takes more effort.

This would be a good thing to know in case your truck dies while moving and you have to steer your truck to the side of the road while still rolling.

Seems like a questionable mechanic if he suggested this. He should have known better.
  • If you can get at the starter from underneath, rap on it few times with a mallet and it might start. If it does, don't shut it off 'til you get to the shop.
  • The wonders of power steering... - it can be turned just takes more effort.

If that doesn't work for you then call a tow truck or mobile mechanic to replace the starter.
