Here's a link to fairly dramatic trailer wheel hopping. I've actually seen worse on a TT. I can't be convinced that it's okay for tires to hop thusly. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This is even a bigger deal the larger the tire and wheel (and thus heavier) get. Personally I have them balanced because it doesn't cost me any more to do it, and I figure it might be a bit easier on the bearings. As for my little utility trailer, I don't bother.
