When I was young and broke, a tire shop told me that I could save a few bucks by skipping the balancing on the rear solid axle of my truck. Said I would not be able to tell the difference.
I found his advice to be correct.
LOL..those old trucks had 7-8 leafs in the rear spring pack plus the biggest reason was those old trucks spring packs were only 36"-42" in some cases. Like the short 26"-28" trailer spring they made a huge damper. Man were they rough riding when empty on county roads.
Todays truck can have 70"+ long leafs springs and make a much much softer ride = a need to be balanced.
I've worn out several GN tandem/triaxle/tandem dual axle trailers in my former multi state construction type business. I saw no abnormal wheel bearing or suspension parts issues. In fact these trailers saw more miles of service than any of my one ton DRW trucks would make.
Must be a RV thing.
