Balancing Trailer Tires - yes or no

Replaced the tires on the trailer yesterday (Goodyear Endurance). After mounting the new tires, the guys were bringing them over to the trailer to install. I asked if they had been balanced and they said they usually didn't balance trailer tires as the vibrations wouldn't be felt in the tow vehicle. I thought that was a bit strange so I asked them to balance them anyway, which they did. A balanced tire has to be better then one that isn't...right?

  • My trailer tires are all balanced. But I have had to ask them (Discount Tire) to do it before.
  • Yes, you did the right thing by having them balanced. Balancing should be included in the cost of the tire and installation. They were trying to cheap-out of you. Sure, you won't feel the out-of-balance tire in the tow vehicle, but the trailer will sure vibrate and bounce and shake things inside!

You did the right thing. Good for you for insisting they do it right!
  • My Goodyear Endurance tires were balanced. That's a pretty weak and uneducated response from the tire installer. Though we may not feel in in our tow rig, the trailer feels it and anything to lower the shaking in the trailer is better for the longevity of the rig. Also, I'll bet the mount and install price included balancing...............
