Battery disconnect

We just pull the fuse between the battery and going into the trailer. Can access from the outside quick & easy.

If one installs their own 12V battery manual switch, do connect it the proper way. re: On the positive line. And the emergency brake wiring is connected to the positive post (or, the always live side of the battery switch). Thus, trailer's emergency break away brake switch always works - regardless of 12V manual switch position. If one connects on the 12V negative post and forgets to turn ON before towing, one's trailer will NOT have emergency break away power. This is both dangerous and illegal. Always connect 12V manual battery switch as shown below. As they say, "be safe and legal".

I got really tired of opening my battery box and removing a cable, so I bought one of these.

Very easy to install and it works like a champ!

I paid about 15 bucks for it at a local Princess Auto store.
I went to the RV dealer and they had EXACTLY the same switch for 50 bucks!

It pays to shop around.

I connect it directly to the negative cable so it disconnects everything.
I only use it when the trailer is stored, so the breakaway cable does not need to be functional.

And that is the way they should be wired. The breakaway and the tongue jack should be operable regardless of the switch position and are connected to the hot post. The switch goes between the battery and the converter and doing it any other way is a waste of time and money. You want to shut off the parasitic drains on the battery.

I agree having one is very convenient. While the wing nut on the negative for sure works, I myself would not want to have to deal with the evil battery case straps.

If you add one, make sure it is rated heavy enough for the amp draw. And make sure you wire in the emergency break away switch hot all the time, upstream of the disconnect. You really do not want to accidentally shut that feature off.

The comment about the disconnect not shutting everything off inside the camper may be a case by case basis. Mine wired on the hot lead from the battery does kill everything coming from the battery, other than the break away switch and my power tongue jack.

Find a wing nut that threads on the negative terminal. Disconnect the negative terminal when not in use, from the battery post.

MOST trailers don't come with one installed. A BETTER way is to simply use a thumb screw to attach the negative battery lead and remove it. With a disconnect switch there are OFTEN some items that remain hot even with it turned off and NOTHING will work (or draw down your battery) with the lead disconnected.

Call the factory and ask.

The Keystone Outbacks come with one as do a number of their other lines as a factory build standard, and it is listed on the website. I dont see it listed under the Premier line so as others have said you probaly do not have one.
