I have a brake controller and my truck battery provides the electricity for the electric brakes. I do not have a battery on the front of the trailer and when I pull the pin out the brakes lock up. I don't think the battery on the front is for the brakes, it is to power the lights in the trailer only
Not just wrong, but legally WRONG. Without the trailer battery when the truck and trailer separate the cord will unplug and your emergency brake disconnect will stop working. Put the battery on the frame where it belongs.
Some electric brake systems have their own battery for the break away system. That's what my car trailer has. This could be why his lock up when he pulls the pin, or he's still hooked up to the TV and that power is locking the brakes as well.
