So you are suggesting a separate charger? Then I would just disconnect the charging portion of the Elixir? I'm not sure of the wiring for that, not sure if it is separate or what, never looked.
I've read where some folks have run 120 volt line to the front of the camper near the batteries and added a charger there, which also helped with wire gauge requirements.
I added a locking front access door to the front storage area, so I can access the inside middle area and mount a charger there if that's better?
That's what I've done. Our current Coachmen has the ubiquitous WFCO 8955 converter that almost everyone reports never actually manages to bulk charge at 14.4 volts ... the best I've ever seen from my own is ~ 13.72 volts. Last year I finally decided I'd had enough so I simply turned it off and bought a stand alone portable CTEK charger that does do a proper 14.4 volt bulk charge. Mine is just a 7 amp charger and since I'm not charging with a genset especially short charging times aren't a concern for me. For those for whom it is, installing a deck mount converter like the Progressive Dynamics PD9260 in the front pass through cargo compartment would be a good choice as the converter is obviously protected from the elements but the cable run to the battery location is also quite reasonable, usually no more than ~ 6', sometimes less. Just make sure the batteries you choose don't require temperature compensated charging as most converters don't offer it, the Parallax Paramode Temp Assure being a notable exception.
1 hr bulk charge? ... you're dreaming. Even with something like a PD9260 it's going to take far more than just 1 hr to get a pair of T105s from say 50% DOD to 80% ... most aim for 90% if they can get there.
